Masswireless.org is a project of Shawmut Education, Inc.(SE). SE is a non profit organization with a mission to provide computer literacy to the homeless and low-income as well as the provision of job placement opportunities. Masswireless will represent the effort of SE to bridge the digital divide with the use of WiFi technology. If you are interested in playing a pivotal role please mail the administrator and ask to be a part of the focus group that will shape the personality and direction of Masswireless. We plan to begin meeting in July of 2006.

Shawmut Education was founded by David Pearson. We started teaching in the late spring of 2000 and since that time have taught approximately 150 students. David, who was homeless himself when he started SE has also added a media component to SE in order to enlighten the broader community regarding issues of indigence and community economic development. Students who have an interest in media also particpate in this effort. Thats the SE way for Capacity Building using its OSCAP methodology. The media effort led to a wonderful relationship with CCTV and the priviledge of being able to meet Bob Doyle and the skyBuilders team. The partnershop with skyBuilders deepened the Shawmut Education collaboration with the Task Force To End Homelessness. We believe our current and future success to be linked to our methodology and abality to forge dynamic Capacity Building partnerships.
The Task Force To End Homelessness is a subcommittee of the Boston Society of Architechts. Their skill set and obvious sensitivity to the issue of homelessness makes for a mutually beneficial partnership. What good is obtaining a computer education if you still cannot find a place to live! The relationship is also exemplefied in the Shelters Database. The datbase is a result of the Task Force Online Guide to Donating to Shelter and Food Programs. Students maintain the the database and acheive a data entry and html skill set while providing a community service.
